Climb Out of the Darkness is committed to bring people together, united, to honor the struggle to overcome PMADs.  We promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide. We support moms & dads, community programs and healthcare providers.

It's Not A Race. And You Are Not Alone.

By leading a Climb this year we hope to shed light on the fact that postpartum depression is the #1 complication of childbirth, and that 1 in 7 mothers will suffer with a PMAD. We are also looking forward to raising funds so our PSI-GA chapter can continue to make an impact in the lives of the families who do desperately need it. 100% of what our team raises (minus CauseVox’s administrative fee), will go directly to our state chapter. To find out more information about what the PSI GA Chapter has to offer and where your funds will go, please visit: www.psiga.org.

Please consider joining our team (or making a donation) for this event on Saturday, June 23rd at 10:00am in Grant Park, Atlanta

#ClimbOut

Here is your chance to make a difference. Climb Out of the Darkness is held on the longest day of the year. Teams and their supporters gather to climb out of the darkness by walking, climbing, or hiking together for these goals:

     1. To bring families together, united, to honor the struggle to overcome mood disorders
     2. To promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide
     3. To raise funds to support the professional community and the public right here in Georgia (because our team is associated with a local chapter, 100% of the funds raised will stay right here in our community)

TEAM GRANT PARK

We will be organizing the Grant Park, Atlanta, GA Climb Out of the Darkness event on June 23, 2018.  We will do a 1-mile walk through Grant Park, starting and ending at one of the pavilions. There will be games and snacks for the kids so they can hang at the pavilion or they can walk or stroller with you.  And in all seriousness, this IS NOT A RACE. Prizes will be given to the mom who comes in last, the mom who hasn't showered in the most days, and the kid that gets the messiest.

Join us - there is no fee to join and you can choose your fundraising involvement. But there is a sweet t-shirt if you raise $100, which will get you one extra day with a clean shirt when the laundry is piled a mile high. #win-win

Postpartum Support International (PSI)

Who is Postpartum Support International(PSI)? The mission of Postpartum Support International is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide. It is the vision of PSI that every woman and family worldwide will have access to information, social support, and informed professional care to deal with mental health issues related to childbearing. PSI promotes this vision through advocacy and collaboration, and by educating and training the professional community and the public.

Do you know 6 moms? Well, at least 1, if not more have suffered with a mood disorder related to childbearing.  Know any moms of color? 38% of new mothers of color experience perinatal emotional complications like depression and anxiety. That is ONE IN EVERY THREE. Women of color experience these complications at TWICE the rate of white women. This is unacceptable.

What work does PSI do in my community? PSI provides direct support to families, trains professionals, and is the bridge to link the two. Through its warmline volunteers, online support groups, facebook facilitators, and local support coordinators, PSI provides hope and resources to families at no charge. We work together to strengthen the safety net for pregnant, postpartum, and post-loss families every day. There are PSI Support Coordinators in every US state and in about 40 other countries. You can find all of the local PSI coordinators on the online support map. http://www.postpartum.net/gethelp/locations/  And check out the Georgia Chapter of PSI : https://psiga.org/

You are not alone. You are not to blame.
With help, you will be well.
