Please join Team Mansfield to support a Climb Out of Darkness 2018!

Hello Everyone! My name is Sarah Dufresne, and I am the Climb Leader for Team Mansfield here in Mansfield, CT.

The Climb Out of the Darkness is a special hike committed to bring people together, to spread awareness, reduce stigma, and to support the struggle to overcome perinatal mood disorders.  The Climb occurs on, or near, the summer solstice to shine the light of the longest day of the year on a darkness that many women experience. The Climb Out of Darkness promotes awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing worldwide. We support survivors, families, friends, providers, and the community in an effort to unite and celebrate recovery for those struggling with postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders.

I have decided to join the cause by hosting a climb here in Mansfield. I have a very personal connection to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, as I suffered from postpartum depression with my first son many years ago. I recently had a second son, and suffered from severe anxiety throughout my pregnancy. I was connected to Postpartum Support International (PSI-a world-wide non-profit organization) through a friend and attended a wonderful training where I met some amazing women. At that training, one of the presenters mentioned the Climb Out of Darkness, and I knew I wanted to join the cause. When I started to do more research, I saw that there were no other Climbs taking place in our area, which is when I decided to start my own Climb!

We will meet at the Fifty-Foot Cliff Preserve, located behind the Mansfield Historical Society (954 Storrs Rd, Mansfield, 06268), at 10:00am on June 23, 2018.  Please come and bring your friends and family! Of course, children are welcome!

It would mean so much to me if you could donate towards my fundraising! The funds will go directly to the Connecticut Chapter of Postpartum Support International that works to help women suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I understand if you are unable to donate, but please consider joining our hike to show your support! I would love to have a huge group of us hiking through the woods that day!

If you have any questions, please just ask! Thank you so much!
