I've been under the care of one OB, one nurse practitioner, three midwives, and three therapists since 2011. The varying degrees of knowledge each of them had about perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) was astounding. Some were fantastically knowledgeable in PMADs. Some dismissed my concerns and feelings. One tried treating me based on extremely outdated information.

Postpartum Support International (PSI) helps families learn about these very treatable disorders and point them in the direction of help and support. Without organizations like PSI, I wouldn't have learned how to advocate for myself. I wouldn't have known where to go for knowledgeable help.

I have participated in Climb Out of the Darkness since it first began in 2013. That year I walked to a stop sign and back. The following year I joined a group of moms and truly realized I wasn't alone. Then, in 2015, I organized Fredericksburg's first Climb which led to the creation of a local peer-to-peer perinatal support group. I can't thank Nicole and Nicole enough for continuing the event so that families can meet, talk, and realize there is light at the end of the tunnel.
